Creating a hair regimen

Sorry about the delay readers, a lot has been going on since we last posted on our blog. Thank you for your patience. In this post, we will be talking about how to create a hair regimen.

So what is a hair regimen exactly.....

A hair regimen is a regulated routine for your hair. The main goal of a hair regimen is to restore and maintain a healthy head full of kinks and curls. The key to creating a successful hair regimen is listening to what your hair needs and considering the environmental/seasonal factors that affect your hair.

Below is a guideline to help aid you in creating your own custom hair regimen. When creating a hair regimen for healthy kinks and curls, you need  to purchase products that........

Cleanse
  • Select a cleansing cream/conditioner, regular conditioner(for co-washing) or a shampoo (preferably one without sulfates). The cleansing product should effectively remove debris and product build-up without stripping the natural oils from your hair and scalp.
Condition
  • Select a conditioner that will  meet your hair needs and condition your hair (of course). The conditioner should also be able to coat your hair and to provide enough slip in your kinks and curls to aid you in the detangling process.
  •  Select a leave-in conditioner that will meet your hair needs. The purpose of a leave-in conditioner is to provide extra conditioning to your hair and to smooth the cuticle of you hair back down down after the washing process.
Deep condition
  • Select a deep conditioner that will meet your hair needs. A deep conditioner is normally used as a preventative measure to protect hair from damage or used to restore dry or damaged hair to a healthier condition.
Moisturize
  • Select a moisturizer that can be easily absorbed by your hair and help you retain moisture in your kinks and curls like a water based moisturizer, hair milk  or etc. (Use daily or as needed)
Seal
  • Select an oil and/or an emulsified cream to seal and help retain moisture in your hair.

Okay, so you have selected the products that you want to use for your hair regimen. Now you are trying to figure out how frequently you want use these products. Well no worries below is sample guideline on how often to use your products and tweak to meet the needs of your kinks and curls.

On a daily basis...
  • You need to make sure you moisturize your kinks and curls.
  • You need to seal your kinks and curls (as needed).
On a weekly basis....
  • You need to make sure you wash, condition, deep condition (DC-if needed), moisturize and seal your kinks and curls.
On a monthly basis...
  • You need to make sure you deep condition (DC) your kinks and curls. The type of DC you pick is your choice.
